Prescription drug overdose deaths have quadrupled among 12-25 year olds in Kansas over the past 12 years. DCCCA Prevention Services addresses the prescription drug issue in Kansas through the Partnerships for Success (PFS) initiative. The purpose of our project is two-fold. On a statewide level, we collaborate with key stakeholders to develop the Kansas prescription drug prevention strategic plan and identify and implement evidence-based prevention strategies. On a local level, we work with community coalitions to implement strategies that generate awareness and reduce the incidence of prescription drug misuse and abuse.
The Partnership for Success program is working together with our Kansas Child Placing Agency to provide medication lock boxes to all of the DCCCA foster families. These boxes will promote safe use, storage, and transportation of medication for children foster care and help to prevent accidental poisoning.
