PROGRAMS

YRC II Residential Services

Elm Acres/DCCCA operates two youth residential centers (YRC II) which provide residential services to youth ages 12-18. The 18-bed Boy’s facility is located in Pittsburg, KS and the 28-bed Girl’s facility is located in Columbus, KS. The purpose of Elm Acres Residential Services is to provide behavioral management services to improve the mental and social adjustment of youth who require placement in a residential facility and to help avoid placement in a more highly structured facility. Youth that are juvenile offenders and children in need of care can be placed in a YRC II residential facility due to behavior problems resulting in criminal charges or status offending behaviors such as truancy, running away, impulse control problems or oppositional/defiant behavior. The primary goal of Elm Acres Residential Services is to improve the youth’s ability to reside in the community and teach the youth appropriate skills to meet their full potential and control their behavior in ways that do not infringe upon the rights of others. Individual case plans are developed to assist them in reaching the outcome of improving their decision making, coping skills, social skills and to address underlying problems which are affecting the youth. The goal is to teach the youth how to make better decisions and improve their behavior in order to transition successfully back into their family and community.
