Family Preservation Approach: DCCCA’s focus and tremendous success meeting outcomes that promote the safety and well-being of children will set the foundation for delivering the services that will prevent children from entering the foster care system. In-home interventions will be facilitated by two types of trained practitioners based on the Tier to which the family is referred.

Sobriety Treatment and Recovery Teams (S.T.A.R.T.) – Tier 2
S.T.A.R.T. is a specialized in-home service for families who have co-occurring substance use and child welfare concerns, including pregnant women using substances and families whose infants were born substance exposed. The approach pairs Case Managers with Family Support Workers, known as family mentors with lived recovery experience, to facilitate timely access to risk reducing interventions and addiction treatment.

Kansas City region – 5 counties (Atchison, Douglas, Johnson, Leavenworth and Wyandotte)

Wichita region – 10 counties (Barber, Butler, Cowley, Elk, Greenwood, Harper, Kingman, Pratt, Sedgwick and Sumner)

Family Preservation Community Referrals

Do you need a little additional assistance? DCCCA can help. DCCCA provides in home support to families who need extra help including:

• Families that are in crisis and need temporary support
• Parents with substance abuse needs
• Families that have had previous experiences with the child welfare system
• Young mothers who are pregnant
• Families that are experiencing truancy concerns

We can work with the family for short periods of time (a few weeks) up to several months (6 months +). We do an assessment of the families’ needs and then set up individualized services to meet those needs. DCCCA collaborates with many other agencies to assist the family with resources. These resource areas include: accessing DCF benefits, food and housing needs, parenting resources, and substance use treatment. We serve families living in the counties of Johnson, Atchison, Leavenworth, Douglas, and Wyandotte. To make a referral, please send an email to fpsreferrals.kc@dccca.org.
