DCCCA announces Mabee Foundation challenge met for Close to Home campaign

A single-story blue house with stone accents has multiple solar panels installed on its roof. The house sits on a corner lot with a freshly paved road, trimmed grass, small shrubs, and clear blue sky overhead.

DCCCA is proud to announce that it has successfully met the Mabee Foundation challenge grant for its Improving Lives … Close to Home campaign, marking a significant milestone in the effort to expand transitional housing and support services for women in recovery and their children in Douglas County.

The J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation issued a challenge grant requiring DCCCA to raise $443,722 in order to receive a $302,500 grant in support of the Close to Home project. Thanks to the generosity of individuals, businesses, foundations, and community partners, DCCCA exceeded the challenge requirement, officially securing the Mabee Foundation’s investment.

“This milestone reflects the strength of our community and its shared commitment to helping women and children build safe, stable futures,” said Lori Alvarado, DCCCA Chief Executive Officer. “We are deeply grateful to the Mabee Foundation for their confidence in our mission and to every donor who helped make this challenge a success.”

“The Mabee Foundation is pleased to support DCCCA’s Close to Home project and to see the community come together to meet this challenge,” said Michael Goeke, Executive Director of the J.E. and L.E. Mabee Foundation. “This effort reflects strong local leadership and a clear commitment to creating safe, supportive housing that will make a lasting difference for women and families.”

The Close to Home campaign supports the construction of ten units of transitional housing designed specifically for women in recovery and their children, along with program support and strategic reserves to ensure long term sustainability. The total campaign goal is $4,212,500.

With the Mabee challenge met, the campaign has now secured more than 95 percent of its goal. DCCCA is just $194,552 away from fully funding the project.

“Meeting the Mabee challenge is a powerful affirmation of the importance of this work,” said Kelly Garcia, DCCCA Chief Development Officer. “While we are incredibly proud of this progress, we are continuing to raise funds to fully support programming and ensure the successful operation of these new homes.”

Construction is nearing completion, and the Close to Home housing community is planned to welcome moms and families in July. These homes will provide a safe, stable environment where women can continue treatment, access childcare, pursue education and employment opportunities, and keep their children close during recovery.

DCCCA looks forward to celebrating this milestone with the community and welcomes continued support as the campaign enters its final stretch.
