Performance Management | Progressive Discipline
Thursday, January 18, 2024
9-11am | https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89070914105

When used effectively, progressive discipline brings attention to areas of needed focus, helps employees correct and resolve performance issues, and does so in the earliest stages allowing for learning and growth. If the thought of this is overwhelming, attend this session to learn best practices and tips for effectively managing performance.

Interviewing and Selection
Wednesday, January 31, 2024
DCCCA Headquarters Colyer Room | 10-3

Do you ever wish you could wave a magic wand and hire that unicorn employee for your job opening? While we won’t have magic wands, supervisors will learn concepts related to interviewing and selection, including job description writing; applicant presentation and screening applications; how to conduct an interview, including do’s, don’ts, and the important “Art of Questioning;” today’s applicant expectations; and background screening.

Managing and Leading
Wednesday, February 14, 2024
DCCCA Service Center Conference Room | 10-3

Discuss the differences and similarities between leading and managing, including when to lead versus manage. Attendees will have the opportunity to assess their own management and leadership competencies. We will also discuss the Stages of Group Formation and how a Leader/Manager adjusts to each stage.

Effective Coaching
Wednesday, February 28, 2024
DCCCA Service Center Conference Room | 10-3

As supervisors and managers, there are times when our employees need guidance in becoming more productive and effective. In this session, learn to recognize coaching opportunities; how to prepare for coaching sessions; and what to say when meeting with the employee. There are also times when a more informal approach can be a better tactic. Learn how to recognize these learning opportunities.

Managing Conflict
Wednesday, March 27, 2024
DCCCA Service Center Conference Room | 10-3

Conflict is inevitable when you are supervising and managing people. How one handles conflict is key, not only to their success as a manager, but this will impact the effectiveness of their entire team. By effectively managing conflict, we earn the respect of our staff and find that they come to us for solutions, as opposed to spending time worrying or gossiping about what could or should be done. Attendees will learn when it is time to become the EMT or Firefighter; the cost of conflict; available resources; how to investigate conflict; and more.

Difficult Conversations
Wednesday, April 10, 2024
DCCCA Service Center Conference Room | 10-3

In this session, learn what makes difficult conversations so – difficult! Learn where to begin; how to determine what the other person is thinking; how to gather facts; controlling emotions; asking the right questions; and managing tone and language.

Employment Law 101
Wednesday, April 24, 2024
DCCCA Service Center Conference Room | 10-3

Attendees will learn the most common reasons employers are sued and the most common types of evidence used against employers. They will learn best practices for written documentation and discipline; recognize the pitfalls in writing performance evaluations; and discuss complex legal situations with an employment law attorney.
