Question, Persuade, Refer (QPR)

QPR is a 1-hour gatekeeper training that covers:
  • How to get help for someone in crisis
  • How to Question, Persuade and Refer someone who may be suicidal
  • How to get help for yourself or learn more about preventing suicide
  • The common causes of suicidal behavior
  • The warning signs of suicide

Youth Mental Health First Aid

This training is for those individuals who work with youth/teens on a regular basis and would like to learn how to help support these individuals through a variety of early intervention, worsening situations, and crisis scenarios. MHFA does not cover how to diagnose or treat a mental health or substance use challenge.

Adult Mental Health First Aid

This training is for those individuals who work with fellow aged adults at work on a regular basis and would like to learn how to help support these individuals through a variety of early intervention, worsening situations, and crisis. MHFA does not cover how to diagnose or treat a mental health or substance use challenge.

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM)

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) is a 4-hour training for mental health professionals, healthcare providers, social service workers, and others who support individuals at risk of suicide. This training focuses on strategies to limit access to the means people may use to kill themselves, aiming to reduce the risk of suicide.

Conversations on Access to Lethal Means (CALM)

A training for a general audience designed to help participants recognize when to act, learn what you can do to help keep friends and family safer and connect them to supportive resources and treatment if needed, and understand that reducing access to lethal means for those at risk is an effective prevention tool (and how to go about it).

Garrett Lee Smith Training Opportunities

DCCCA has received funding from the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services through the Kansas Garrett Lee Smith (GLS) State/Tribal Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Program to provide evidence-based trainings to reduce suicide deaths, behaviors, and ideation in youth and young adults aged 10-24 in two regions of Kansas: Wyandotte County and Southeast Kansas. The counties listed below are eligible to receive the specified training at no cost.

Sources of Strength – Elk, Greenwood, Montgomery, Neosho

Counseling on Access to Lethal Means (CALM) – Allen, Bourbon, Crawford, Labette, Neosho, Wyandotte

Postvention Support – Bourbon, Cherokee, Crawford, Labette, Montgomery, Wyandotte
